“What does it mean to be in devotion to the Earth?“

This can take on so many forms. And in this modern world, it seems to be a radical endeavor. And what’s interesting, is it the word radical actually means root. So working with the earth, is not radical in the sense that it is crazy. It is radical in the sense that it is helping us return to our deepest most rooted selves. No matter where you come from, you have ancestors that lived in deep intimate relationship with the land. Over time, we see the advancements that our society has made, and also we see destruction in the name of those advancements. A huge one for me that I have noticed, is our deterioration of intimacy with the earth. It’s pretty obvious that humans would not exist if it weren’t for the earth. And this simple truth is why I have become a nature-based educator.

a walk in the woods

When I garden or explore the forest, I feel that I am in deep communion with the land. She speaks to me, and I speak to her. I learn more about myself while I am in the garden or out in the woods then when I was in college. And that’s the truth. All of my deepest, most transformative lessons unfold by being the land. She teaches me to be graceful, observant, curious, alert, patient, cautious, daring... need I go on? Humans are the intersection of this physical plane and spirit. This human vessel is a way our invisible essence, or soul, to interact again with the land... through us. I like to visualize my ancestors living through me, as I am their descendant, and doing things in which they would appreciate and feel remembered by. And that is why tending to the land is devotional for me. Not only is my environmental impact more positive, but I am communing with Nature, lessening my screen-time, feeling my ancestors, and learning how to be more relaxed. Rather, I am naturally releasing my mental and physical tension by engaging in an activity that effortlessly turns my stress meter all the way down.

Gardening (to put it all in one broad term) is something that I am dedicating my life to, because without this Earth I would simply not be here. And neither would anyone I feel that the least that I could do is regenerate soil, grow plants, save seeds, listen to the trees, make medicines, and share this all with others. Time and time again, people tell me that they just don't know where to start. Going for a walk in Nature can be intimidating for some folks. Starting a small garden can be overwhelming. This is where I feel called to serve; as a Guide & Mentor to those who want to remember their intimate connection to the Earth.

If this is calling to you, I invite you to see my Mentorship page and schedule your free call with me to work together.

Roses from my 'heart's garden' to yours,

Michele
